Trust is a circle and if done correctly, it’s a virtuous circle for companies.īut first, companies need to be the ones to take that trust leap in using first-party data. When this is done well and takes into account personal preferences, people will often tell their friends about it, furthering social-proof. Personalizing interactions and making suggestions for products or services someone might be interested in based on past purchases is another such demonstration. Demonstrating that you’re using the first-party data that your customer entrusted to you well is that proof. 'Actions speak louder than words’ might not be as much of a cliché as you think it is. While it can be a very confronting question to ask, it opens up the potential for a much deeper and more rewarding relationship between companies and their customers. Instead of asking how trust can be built, senior leaders need to ask themselves if their product, service or information is deserving of that trust in the first place. But is that enough when it comes to data? And how can companies nurture trusting relationships once they do establish them?įirst-party data will be key to revolutionizing how brands engage with customers in a digital world and enable us to recreate the same level of engagement as we have with our local shop owner, however, companies need to focus on trust to get this right. To quote one of our attendees, trust is knowing that the cat will come back at the end of the day when you let it out, or that your pizza will be delivered in 30 minutes once a notification pops up to tell you it’s on the way. Rachel defines trust as “a confident relationship with the unknown”. Companies need to focus on demonstrating through action why customers should trust them, instead of ‘building it.’ However, can trust be built? According to Rachel, it’s not that simple. The event was focused on what constitutes trust and how companies can have strong relationships with the customers, especially in the context of user data. We hosted it at The Shard on a suitably rainy morning, where we welcomed Rachel Botsman, a world leading expert in trust. The topic of trust and what constitutes it was the focus of our recent Twilio Transform London event. Considering these trust leaps is central to understanding our customers and building lasting relationships with them. MessagingX is its specific SMS marketing platform, which lets users send text messages through SMS, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. What do you picture when someone asks you to take a trust leap? Does it conjure up images of a corny team building exercise where you’re asked to fall into a colleague’s awaiting arms to prove that you are a strong team? Well thankfully, that’s not what we’re referring to here! We’re talking about much smaller decisions that we make on a daily basis when we choose to trust an individual or an organization. Billing itself as a complete customer engagement platform, Twilio offers products for email, voice and text messaging campaigns.

Oringally released in 1966, Brown's influence impacted many of today's biggest R&B artists. The unmistakable song samples one of James Brown's earliest hits, 'It's a Man's Man's Man's World'. 'Fallin' samples 'It's a Man's Man's Mans' World' by James Brown. Its widely known as one of her signature songs, but which legendary musical figure did she sample? 'Foolish' samples 'Stay With Me' by DeBargeĪshanti and her producer Irv Gotti sampled this 80's tune by soul collective DeBarge to help create her iconic debut.Īnother smasher from a debut album, Alicia Keys hit us with 'Fallin' all the way back in 2001. But it was partially thanks to one R&B group. Yep, Ashanti hit the nail on the head with this classic tune. In 2002, it spent ten weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 after it's release. 'Good Kisser' samples 'Montego Bay' by Bobby Bloomīobby Bloom was described as a bit of a one-hit wonder with this song, which was inspired by the city in Jamaica. Disclosure remixed the original soon after, but there's a sample underneath it all that goes way back. R&B legend Usher released 'Good Kisser' in 2014, and its everything we love - classic smooth, slick Usher. This classic 80's track has been sampled in numerous tracks throughout the years, including Chris Brown's debut hit. 'Run It' samples 'I Know What Boys Like' by The Waitresses But did you spot the sample hidden within the catchy R&B track? " Good Kisser", " She Came to Give It to You" and " I Don't Mind" were released and he also embarked on the UR Experience Tour, yet no album was released. The song impacted urban contemporary radio as the album's third single on Septem Background and release įollowing Usher's 2012 album Looking 4 Myself, his next studio album was expected to be released in 2014. The song features a sample of Steely Dan's song " Third World Man" from their 1980 album Gaucho. The song was written by Usher, Robert Calloway, Walter Becker, Donald Fagen, Autoro Whitfield, Faheem Mardre, Andrew Wansel, and Warren Felder, while production was handled by the latter two. The record is taken from his eighth studio album, Hard II Love. It was released by RCA Records on Augon for online streaming and for digital download. " Missin U" is a song by American singer Usher. “I think food should be fun,” she once said, “and food should be happy. It’s so simple, you can make it for your family whenever you’re in the mood for it. Reilly’s approach to cooking was similarly salt-of-the-earth. She just went in and did her job every day, like most blue-collar people." A nd yet Reilly was never one to trumpet her achievements, her son, Thomas B. After taking time off to raise her children in 1961, she returned to the company two decades later, now in the role of manager of the Campbell's Kitchen, a position she held until her retirement in 1988. As a supervisor at Campbell’s, “she was a trailblazer in a world in which women were generally on the sidelines of corporate America,” according to a video tribute from her alma mater. Born in 1926, in Woodbury, New Jersey, she was raised in Camden, and became one of the first members in her family to attend college. Reilly’s pioneering accomplishments were not limited to the test kitchen. You can find upgraded versions of the recipe ( Bon Appétit, for instance, recommends ditching the canned soup for whole milk, cream and fresh cremini mushrooms) and Reilly’s hand-written original recipe card even made it into the archives of the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Green bean casserole has endured over the ages, with 40 percent of Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup sales going towards making the dish, a spokesperson told Rao in 2015. “I’m very proud of this, and I was shocked when I realized how popular it had become.” “We all thought this is very nice, etc., and then when we got the feelings of the consumer, we were really kinda pleasantly shocked,” Reilly once said, according to Today’s Rao. Dorcas had created many recipes for the company (among them tuna noodle casserole and Sloppy Joe’s made from tomato soup), and was somewhat surprised that the green bean casserole proved to be such a hit. Originally called “Green Bean Bake,” Dorcas’ dish really took off when Campbell’s began printing the recipe on its mushroom soup cans, according to Karen Zraick of the New York Times. Though they continued to shoulder the responsibility of keeping the family fed, an ever-growing number of women were entering the workforce, fueling the demand for easy-to-make meals. The lifting of wartime rations on canned goods, coupled with innovations in canning and freezing that made packaged foods more accessible than ever, created a culture of convenience cooking. It was the perfect recipe for post-War America, when cheap, fuss-free cooking was all the rage. The prep time was minimal the dish worked well with frozen or canned green beans, and the fried onions were pre-packaged. According to Today’s Vidya Rao, she and her team initially toyed with adding celery salt and ham to the recipe, but ultimately settled on six simple, affordable ingredients that could be stirred together in a casserole dish and popped into the oven for 25 minutes. The recipe had to be based on ingredients that any home cook would have on hand, including Campbell’s mushroom soup and green beans.ĭorcas, who had earned a degree in home economics from Drexel University (known then as the Drexel Institute of Technology), got to tinkering. In 1955, Dorcas was working as a supervisor at the home economics department of a Campbell’s test kitchen in Camden, New Jersey, when she was tasked with creating a recipe for a feature that would appear in the Associated Press. The retro recipe, which has been appearing on American tables for more than 60 years, can be traced back to a woman named Dorcas Reilly, who died on October 15 at the age of 92, reports Timothy Bella of the Washington Post. This Thanksgiving, some 20 million Americans will tuck into green bean casserole, a culinary classic consisting of just six ingredients: a can of Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, green beans and crunchy fried onions. Editor's Note, November 19, 2018: With Thanksgiving approaching, we are resurfacing this October 2018 story about a holiday favorite. In celebration, I have decided to create outfits in honor of my favorite character – Merida. Nevertheless, the film should be given a second chance to shine - as a princess movie, Brave is severely underappreciated. For this week of Pixar Fest, we are celebrating Brave. Much like Merida herself, Brave has flaws. Its positive qualities are often overlooked, despite Merida and Elinor’s story being unique, interesting, and heartwarming. While Brave is far from a perfect movie, it is certainly worth a watch. Such a dark possibility is rarely seen in Disney princess movies. One of the most tense moments of the film comes when King Fergus attempts to kill what he thinks is a demon bear who killed his wife, not knowing that he comes within inches of killing Elinor himself. There are still demon bears to fight, mysteries to unravel, and clans to satisfy. Just because repairing the familial bond between mother and daughter is a given, that doesn’t mean the tension is low. When a viewer can tell where the story is headed, it’s still possible to be intrigued with how the characters will eventually get to the end. When all is said and done, telling a story that is predictable isn’t always a negative thing. Being magically turned into a bear caused Elinor to become trapped in a situation that, for once, she had no control over therefore, she had to trust Merida to help her, a decision that, while forced upon her, did help her to grow as a person. RELATED: Every Pixar Movie Ranked from Worst to BestĮlinor herself learns to get back in touch with her wild and free side by taking the time to understand Merida’s viewpoint. It’s clear that even though Merida never appreciated her mother’s ability to take charge of a situation and act as the only responsible and reasonable voice in the room, she still learned from Elinor’s poise. Throughout the course of the story, Merida learns the benefits of being calm and assuming responsibility, and she demonstrates this new skill by mediating an argument between her suitors’ clans. Her wild spirit and strong desire to take charge of her own life set her apart from many other Disney princesses, even though these same positive traits can become negative. This scene makes their central conflict crystal clear.ĭespite her flaws, Merida is still a fun protagonist to follow. As the scene plays out, the cuts between locations and characters become more frequent and quicker, eventually leading into a two-sided discussion, though neither Merida nor Elinor are able to hear the other side of the argument. As Merida complains to her horse that her mother won’t listen, Elinor complains to her husband Fergus about the same issue involving Merida. This strong point of the central conflict, Merida and Elinor’s misunderstandings of each other, is expertly displayed using a scene that goes back and forth between two conversations. Merida and Elinor begin the story unable to listen to or understand each other the mother-daughter relationship is messy and lacks effective communication. The story centers on familial tensions instead of romantic ones, a welcome change from the classic princess formula. In stark contrast to the classic but unfortunate Disney trope, Brave’s more modern story not only allows Merida (voiced by Kelly Macdonald) to have a relationship with her mother, Elinor (voiced by Emma Thompson), but also centers the conflict of the plot on their struggle to understand each other. Thinking about trying out a wavy perm for long hair? Read on to get inspired: 1. In fact, many salons will actually refuse to carry out the treatment on processed hair because of the risk of damage, so it’s best to do it on virgin (aka untreated) hair. However, it’s important to note that as getting a perm is quite an intensive chemical process, it’s not recommended for those with hair that has already been dyed, bleached, or chemically straightened hair. While coarse, thick hair is generally seen as best suited for perming, that’s not to say that those with fine hair can’t also try them – we recommend talking to your hairstylist for a consultation before booking in to discuss your hair’s suitability. One of the pros of wavy perms is that they can work well on hair of different lengths and textures. Wavy perms usually last between 3 and 6 months, but this can vary depending on how well you care for it and what your natural hair pattern is like. With a wave perm, the hair is wrapped around larger rods to produce looser waves for a more relaxed result. Here’s everything you need to know about wavy perms: What’s the difference between a regular perm and a wave perm? Traditional perms produce defined spiral curls by wrapping the hair around smaller individual rods for tight, uniform curls. Right now, that looks like a wavy perm for long hairstyles. The cool thing about perm styles is that they can be tailored to your particular style and what’s currently trending in the hairstyle scene. We are happy to share that the perm has recently seen what is probably the biggest rebrand since the midi skirt. When you think of a perm, your first thought is probably the 80s curls from your parent’s old photo albums. The other team members quickly saw that Fox was entirely smitten with her, especially after ROB unintentionally revealed his rising temperature and asks if he's okay. To everyone's surprise, Krystal appeared in the Great Fox to do it personally. In the message, she stated that she was eternally grateful to him and was sad that they didn't get a chance to thank him. She uses the staff's power to blast at the statue head now floating above them, but the monster escaped and Fox followed with his Arwing.Īfter Andross, the true identity of the statue, was defeated and the Star Fox team reunited, Peppy told Fox about a message he had received from Krystal. Fox hoisted Krystal up and she proceeded to take her staff back, against Fox's wishes. The two locked eyes and there was an immediate spark between the two. Fortunately, Fox had been quick enough that he was able to stick Krystal's staff out fast enough for her to catch it. As the spirits were released, Krystal's prison shattered and she plunged from the top of the palace. They then entered her body and were shot out into the statue of the Krazoa. Once Fox had defeated General Scales, claimed his Krazoa, and released it into the palace, the Krazoa Spirits began to float around Krystal. After finding the second spirit and going to the Krazoa Palace for the first time, Fox first saw Krystal and instantly fell in love. It is unknown whether this was real or an illusion by Andross. Here, Krystal pleaded for help from Fox and Tricky while the Krazoa she freed tasked Fox with finishing her mission to save her. The second message Fox recieved in Moon Mountain Pass. This told him about the staff and how to use it. The first was a message from within her staff which he had found in ThornTail Hollow. Twice in the game, Fox McCloud heard her voice through telepathic messages. Doing this allowed an unknown entity, one that Krystal seemed to recognize, to imprison her in a large, crystalline mechanism. Unfortunately, her mission was cut short as she released the spirit into one of the Krazoa Shrines. The spirit tasked Krystal with a test so that she may host the Krazoa, and the mission to collect the other five spirits. After journeying through the palace, Krystal found a strange altar with an entity called a Krazoa Spirit. The CloudRunner then flew Krystal to the Krazoa Palace which had been overrun by the SharpClaw where she found many gravely injured EarthWalker warriors in the palace. Unfortunately, she was captured by General Scales and, after a quick dialogue, was thrown overboard only to be saved by the CloudRunner. The CloudRunner managed to damage the airship greatly before Krystal jumped onto the ship itself. Shortly afterwards, the two are set upon by the General's flying galleon and Krystal's staff was shot from her hands. With the help of a CloudRunner, she learned that the planet was being torn apart due to the results of the tyrannical General Scales. When is the 2023 MLB All-Star Game? Mad Max: Fury Road has been nominated for 10 Academy Awards including the first Best Director nod for George Miller. The third time trying to mount Mad Max: Fury Road was the charm, but by then, George Miller had decided to recast the role of Max and Tom Hardy was brought in. Even if George Miller had his heart set on getting Gibson back, it was unlikely any studio would have given a dollar to finance a movie starring Mel Gibson at that stage of the actor's career. The actor was pulled over after drinking a lot, and went on a tirade that hit the bad publicity trifecta of racist, homophobic, and sexist. Miller then tried to go back in 2006 and work with Mel Gibson on Mad Max again, but 2006 was when Gibson hit some personal hurdles in the media, and the man just wasn’t in a position to go make a big-budget action movie. George Miller decided to go on and produce the animated feature Happy Feet instead. The drop in value of the dollar meant that suddenly the money they had to produce Mad Max: Fury Road just wasn’t as much as it had been before, and it just wasn’t enough. There's a chance this could be a very different Mad Max sequel, which wouldn't be a bad thing, but there's also a much bigger chance it's something else entirely.Economics is a hell of a thing. Avalanche did recently rebrand and is currently working on a new game that seems like some sort of horror shooter. A sequel would be great, but more of the same could quickly get boring. The only things you can do once you finish the main story are finish up side quests and get collectibles, which is hardly riveting enough to sustain long-term interest. There's also a distinct lack of an end-game in Mad Max. It seems that great gameplay and stunning visuals aren't enough to keep people coming back, however. Looking up at the stars helps to keep you and Max hopeful. To top this all off, the gorgeous skyboxes contrast the harsh and desolate land you dwell within. Getting 100% completion in this game doesn't feel like a chore because it always feels like there's a point to what you're doing. Max also shares some memories of the world before the apocalypse whenever you find a collectible, a nice touch that adds some depth to both him and the world. You need water, fuel, and scrap to survive, so it makes sense that you'd scour the game's many enemy bastions for those resources. On top of the great combat, the upgrade and exploration system combine for some excellent ludonarrative harmony. There's some stuff thrown in about helping a woman and her child, but the game actually ends up telling that story in the incorrect order, so it loses some impact. They either give you something you need to upgrade your car or enable you to find something to give to someone else who can then help upgrade your car. While the game features a host of great characters - including one who has a chainsaw stuck halfway through their skull and one who teases you for getting into the wrong side of the car - the missions amount to little more than fetch quests. It's a great setup for a Mad Max game, but the execution of the story is certainly lacking. He wants to cross the plains of silence in the hopes of gagging the tormenting voices in his head. Traumatised by the tragic loss of his wife and child, and hardened by the brutality of the apocalyptic desert, Max's only goal is to find peace and quiet. You play as Max, the titular protagonist of the film series. The most universally panned aspect of Mad Max is its story, and even I'll admit I wasn't particularly blown away by it.
